Easy Foam  ::  Taking The Heat And High Cost Out Of Fin Fan Cooler Cleaning!
The Preferred Method of Fin Fan Cooler Cleaning and How and Why It Works...
Foam Cleaning is generally the preferred method of cleaning fin fan coolers, as stated by the vast majority of all fin fan cooler manufacturers.  Easy Foam has worked for years researching and creating the best possible cleaning agents to combat the problems associated with air cooled fin fan coolers.  Our current product development has been our Easy Foam "Ultra" Foam Cleaning Agent.  Our foam cleaning agent is environmentally friendly and biodegradable.  It is totally safe to use on and around your equipment, by your company's personnel and towards the environment.

We want you to understand how our process, equipment systems and products work, which will allow you to make informed choices when it comes to your maintenance of your fin fan cooler cleaning needs.
The Basic Fundamentals of Fin Fan Cooler Cleaning
The basic selection of what methodology to use, is primarily a determination, which is based upon the contamination to be removed and the surface from which the soil must be removed.  Safety, environmental, production and your cost analysis concerns, must also be addressed. Choosing the right methodology also demands an analysis of the surface to be cleaned.
Fin Fan Coolers, typically have very thin (normally 0.016” thick) aluminum fins, that are spirally wrapped around an inner tube at the rate of 10 fins per inch. These fins are very delicate and cannot tolerate harsh mechanical methods of cleaning without severe damage to the fins, caused by bending them or stretching them further apart.

Whenever the fins on the top or bottom row of the cooler pack is damaged or bent, air flow is reduced, thereby causing inefficiencies in the coolers ability to cool as it was originally designed to do. This is one reason why you should use the correct cleaning methodology that allows cleaning of your fin fan coolers, while creating the minimal impact to the fins and their surfaces.  With this in mind, the layout of the tubes in a typical cooler bank must also be taken into consideration.
Due to the offset stacking of the tubes in a typical cooler bank, all mechanical cleaning methods, such as air blowing, pressure washing, ice blasting and soda blasting, cannot penetrate through the layers of the tubes and contact all of the surfaces that need to be cleaned.  This causes an ineffective contaminate removal, especially from the tops of the fin fan tubes.
Proper foam cleaning touches all of the surfaces as it penetrates through the tube banks, loosening the dirt and all other normal contaminates and allowing the rinse water to carry the contaminants through the bottom of the cooler.

Foam is comprised of water, air and cleaning agents.  A continuous stream of wet foam is applied onto the cooler bank.  The low pressure differential causes bubbles of different sizes to continuously slip around each other. This property enables foam to completely fill empty spaces and also migrate effectively into the cracks and crevices of the cooler pack, thus eliminating channeling and taking with it, the cleaning solution. The entrained surfactants form pockets, called micelles, which then emulsifies, dissolves and traps contaminants within the foam, leaving behind a clean surface.

Here Is A Brief Explanation Of The Basic Benefits Of Foam Cleaning And Why It Is The Preferred Method For Cleaning Fin Fan Coolers.

•  Foam cleaning should be performed with a high volume, low pressure foaming method, which will allow the best cleaning environment around the fins of the cooler, virtually eliminating problems with “fin bending”.

•  Foam cleaning, when properly performed, is very safe for your personnel, your coolers and the environment.

•  Foam cleaning that is properly performed, should only take about 10-minutes per 100 square foot of cooler space.

•  When the foaming agent is applied, it contacts ALL of the surfaces and fills in between the fins.  Unlike liquids, foam stays in the cooler packs and keeps the active cleaning ingredients in contact with the entire surface area.  Applying cleaning agents in the form of liquid is much less effective, because 95% of the liquid will simply run through the cooler packs and onto the ground, preventing the cleaning agents to remain within the cooler packs long enough to become effective.

•  Coolers that have been cleaned on an annual basis, have proven to operate at a much higher rate of efficiency and a longer life span.  This is because if you leave dirt on the cooler, even a thin layer, it will increase oxidation on the fins and fin pack.
